Born into a well-known family of artists, Yuriria Fanjul grew up in Mexico City absorbing and following the creative footsteps of her family’s spirit. She was mentored from an early age by her grandfather, actor & composer, Ferrusquilla, and her aunt, Angélica Aragón.

After graduating with a BA in Humanities specializing in Contemporary French Philosophy, Art History and Voice studies (UDLAP), she studied a two-year Physical Theatre Masters Degree at the London International School of Performing Arts (LISPA) in collaboration with Naropa University.

In 2010 she co-founded En Canta Teatro, a London based opera company that would create physical-theatre and live-music performances, as well as promote Latin American talent in Europe.

In the UK, Fanjul participated in theatre and opera trainings at the Young Vic, the English National Opera (ENO), the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) and Iford Arts Opera Festival, including a workshop of contemporary opera Powder her Face by Thomas Adès, and assisting Chris Cowell and Pia Furtado’s directions in Massenet’s Cendrillon and Handel’s Susanna respectively.

With a strong passion for both Baroque and Contemporary music, Fanjul worked as a director or movement director for operas such as Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo, Britten’s Turn of the Screw, Liquid History, Clive, The Leap in the Dark and Adrift (Gestalt Arts), and La Creciente by Georgina Derbez (Festival Internacional Cervantino).

Original stage creations include Filigrana de papel, Red, El tejido de los sueños, Cabared, and The Contemporary Theatre Museum. Devised projects include, Herencia Española, The Lord of the Rings, Cabared, The Aleph and Qué pasa contigo Juanita.

As an actress, Fanjul has performed in festivals such as Shakespeare at The White Bear, The Nursery Festival, BE Festival, CASA Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Festival Internacional Tamaulipas.

As a soprano, Fanjul was part of the choir Coro de Cámara de la UDLAP singing in venues such as El Palacio de Bellas Artes and La Sala Nezahualcóyotl (Mexico) amongst many others, and in festivals such as América Cantat IV (Mexico), Corhabana (Cuba) and Florilège Vocal de Tours (France) where the choir received two awards and further on recorded two CDs with Quindeccim Records.

For two years she was head of the Music Department at an international not-for-profit cultural organization in the US, and studied North-Indian Harmonium and Raga with Daisy Paradis.

Currently, Fanjul works as an independent actor, director and performing arts coach for singers internationally. She produces her personal projects, and promoting arts education and collective creation in Mexico.
